Art Inspired By Arizona

So, what’s the big deal with Arizona? Arizona is home to vast deserts, stunning mountains, and all the desert foliage you could dream of. Saguaros and shrubs and succulents! Both Phoenix and Tucson sit right in the heart of the Sonoran Desert which gives them the coolest backyards. Like, seriously, imagine having miles and miles of desert right outside your door to explore! Phoenix specifically is known to have over 300 days of sunshine in a calendar year! All of that amazing sun creates the best lighting conditions for all kinds of artistic inspiration. Tucson was founded in 1775 when Spanish soldiers inhabited it and built a presidio (a Spanish fortress). This presidio was the launching pad for Tucson becoming a thriving settlement! Building, farming, trading, and the military presence helped secure Tucson and allowed it to become the oldest and longest inhabited settlement. Tucson is known to have rich culture established by the Spanish, Mexican, and Anglican influences. So, overall, tons of beauty to catch your eye. Tons of color, texture, and shape to draw. A world of inspiration!

Art Inspired by the Sonoran Desert

The Sonoran Desert spans over 100,000 square miles across Arizona, California, and northwestern Mexico. Within it, over 2,000 species of plants have been identified with the most iconic plant being the saguaro cactus! These buddies can live for over 200 years and grow up to 40 feet tall! They’re definitely big boys. If you’re not sure what a saguaro cacti is, picture the cacti that have two arms pointing upward. Picture classic cactus. Not only do tons of plants love inhabiting the Sonoran Desert, but over 500 species of little animal buddies and over 350 different species of birds call this desert home. Now, picture this. You’ve traveled hundreds of miles to finally reach the Sonoran desert. Sun warming your cheeks. Sand beneath your feet. Cacti all around welcoming you to their home. Pretty sick visual, huh? Then, you’re back at home. You desperately miss this experience. You wish those saguaro cacti were chilling in your backyard. Know what you need? A PRINT THAT REMINDS YOU OF THE SONORAN DESERT. Lucky for you, Caroline’s got tons of desert inspired prints and posters! Below are links to prints and postcards inspired by the beautiful Sonoran Desert!

Art Inspired by the Santa Catalina Mountain Range

The Santa Catalina Mountain Range was originally named Babad Do’ag by the Tohono O’odham Nation. Babad Do’ag means “Frog Mountain” and describes the visual of the mountain looking like a sleeping frog when seen from the Tucson valley. It was later named in 1697 by an Italian man, Jesuit Eusebio Francisco Kino. He named the mountains after Saint Catherine because she was the patron saint of Kino’s oldest sister. Keepin’ it in the family, I guess. The Santa Catalina Mountain Range is home to a wide variety of biomes such as oak woodlands, ponderosa pine forests, and the Sonoran desert. The highest peak of the Catalinas is Mount Lemmon which stands at 9,157 feet. This mountain range is considered a sky island due to being surrounded by so many different eco-systems! How cute and diverse!
